From May to September each Thursday night it's not raining, Classic Cars, Street Rods and Corvettes gather at Sonic in Morgantown to have dinner & chat and have a good time.
Tom Frank reported that everyone had a good time - indoors.
A few Skyline members went to see an outdoor show featuring Jr Walker and the All Star Band. We park the Corvettes to the right of the stage and become the 'entertainment' during the break. People who normally don't get to see Corvettes up close come take a look at the cars. It's a good opportunity for public exposure.
MaryAnn Zettlemoyer, Kerry Koch, Bob Rothermel, Joe Volence & Sarah.
During the break, I got our Prez to pose with the girls in the band.
Linda Spangenberg would like to announce the availability of a few kittens looking for good homes. Please contact Linda via the Skyline Membership List.
Stoudt's Corvette Show - Free - 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM - Rain Date August 9thhttp://www.stoudtautosales.com/corvette-show-32.htm has a video from the show that features a few SDC members' cars.
The Labor Day Parade down Penn Street in Reading PA is always enjoyable.
46 Corvettes attended the Father's Day weekend SDC show at the Berkshire Mall. It's nice to see so many fellow members get out and "meet & greet". I handed out 4 new member applications, plus other SDC members handed out a few applications. Remember to keep a few Membership Applications in your Glove Box!
Nine Corvettes got to "run the hill" during the SCCA "Pagoda Hillclimb" on Sunday June 28th 2009. It was a rare opporunity to drive faster than the 25 MPH speed limit.... and have the Safety Corner Workers there just in case. Gene Miller was the first Vette in line to take the hill in his 454-powered 1979 Vette - as an honor to his many years in Corvette Racing.
Did you know that Gene was the 1966 Duryea Hillclimb Winner in a 1963 split-window coupe - and was part of the Fiber Flyers along with John Catalano and others from that time? This is a vintage photo taken in 1966 during Gene Miller's run up the hill.
Many Skyline members support this annual Corvette show. Live band, great activities. Pre-Registered Corvettes get an Event T-Shirt. Pre-register by Friday Aug 7th. $20 Sign-up Form is at http://www.corvettesforkidsinc.org/Online_Registration_Form.pdf A stack of signup forms was at the July SDC meeting.
Friday July 24th - Jr Walker and the All-Stars Band - Rain Or Shine Meet Friday at 5 PM at Boscov's at the Berkshire Mall. Leave NLT 5:30 PM, go South on 222, then east on US 30, get off at Greenfields Road, over the bridge, and Right at the light into the Greenfields Industrial Park. The Vettes park adjacent to the outdoor Stage, adjacent to the lake, and we become the "halftime entertainment" for the crowd of 3,000 people. The Show starts at 6:30 PM, then a break, then the 2nd set is at 8 PM. Listen to one of the greatest MoTown bands of the 60's! After last year's trip to see Gary Lewis and the Playboys, we gathered at the Sonic in Brownstown for a 'nightcap'. The Jr Walker and the All-Stars Band show is Rain Or Shine. If it rains, MaryAnn and I will still be driving the Vette. Hey, it's fiberglass.... it isn't going to rust. : )
Sunday September 20th - Schuylkill Valley Corvette Club show at Bubeck Park, Schuylkill Haven PA. It was a relatively warm sunny day. The variety of Corvettes was fantastic. Good example of another Corvette club's show. Pre-register for next year's show if you can. $10.
