Sunday, June 4, 2006: 4th Annual "Vettes Cruisin' for Pets" at the Humane Society of Berks County was a total blast! If you joined us, thanks for coming! If you missed the fun, shame on you (you can make it up by joining us next year!). Click here to get to see some of what you missed.Y-102 radio gave our club some great exposure to the community.
47 Corvettes (2 no-shows) turned out for the 4th Annual "Vettes Cruisin' for Pets" show at the Humane Society of Berks County on Sunday June 4. Also, a few Corvettes showed up as spectators (and possible new members) but didn't enter the show. In addition to SDC, other clubs participating were the Allentown Area Corvette Club and the Corvette Club of Delaware Valley.
Although the weather was on the cool side and it looked like it was about to rain any minute, Mother Nature was kind enough to keep the raindrops at bay. Trophies were awarded in eight different categories, and volunteers from the Humane Society picked the "Best of Show" winner. All this was made possible by the generous trophy sponsorships we received from all the companies and individuals listed below. Including registrations, proceeds from the Chinese Auction and cash donations, we raised a total of $2,032.57 for the Humane Society -- over $900 more than last year!Sammy's Steaks was on-hand with some great steak sandwiches and fries, and he also donated a portion of his sales to the event. Many thanks to Karen Minor, Executive Director of the Humane Society, Jennifer Long, Volunteer Coordinator, Scott Yoder, board member and volunteer and the rest of the staff at the Humane Society for helping out with the event. But most importantly, there was a very happy ending for 2 dogs ad 2 cats that were adopted during the show and went home with their new families. One of the dogs, "Smokey", was adopted by Brian Ott and his daughter Coorinne. Smokey appeared on the Y-102 radio spot the day prior to the show. Someday soon, Smokey will get a ride in Brian's smokin' Lingenfelter!! Special thanks go out to Ron Grove, Jerry & Luan Mundell and Kevin & Kathy Messner for helping organize the show, and to Virt Hilliker for making sure all the cars were lined up perfectly! I couldn't have done it without all of you!
